We have had a busy week, and it's only Wednesday! We have started our Math program. If you are interested in more information about it, here's a website link: https://www.engageny.org/resource/grade-2-mathematics
You can see at the top, they have a section for parents and families. This is very new to me, so the kids and I have been learning together. They should have some math papers coming home this week. If you have questions, please let me know.
We have also been learning about Reading Centers. We've practiced our phonics center, our reading center, and our comprehension center. We will continue to practice these through next week. While the students are doing center activities, I will be working with small groups of students to help them become better readers. It is important for the students to work independently or with a partner at their center.
I have really enjoyed getting to know all the students. This is a nice class that is fun to be with, but they are also hard workers.

First Week - Done!
August 16, 2014 - Oh, wow, was I tired Friday evening. How about the students in my class? Were they tired, too? Good thing we have the weekend to rest up!
I have to say Thank You to everyone that was able to come to Open House on Thursday night. I had 14 families come - that's the biggest turn out I've ever had! Thanks for taking the time to come to school. I read one of my favorite books Friday afternoon - |

You can ask your child how the little girl that was telling the story solved her problem. She's pretty clever.
We also did some fun math and continued to learn more about each other. I can't wait to see my students again on Monday!

I was so excited to meet my students this morning. For only being together for half a day, we did a lot. We learned each others' names, sang, had recess (of course), and made some crafts. We read a story called "There's a Monster at the End of the Book." It made us giggle. After we read the story, we created our own monsters. Some of them are below. (Some students didn't get done yet.) I'm looking forward to seeing all my students again on Thursday!
